I went to Jiming Temple in the afternoon on May 3. I had been there with my aunt. I attended at one o’clock p.m.
I chose to go to Jiming Temple because it is Buddhism which the most popular religion in China. Jiming Temple has been built for hundred years. It is also a famous temple in Nanjing. I chose buddhism because it is influent the live of some of Chinese people. It is also fit the traditionally culture and history in China.
Jiming Temple is located near Xuanwu Lake, East Beijing Lu. The temple was built on the hill . The buildings in the Temple were all Chinese traditional buildings which are very old but beautiful. There are four halls in the temple. The first hall is DA XIONG BAO DIAN which has four numens who control the weather. They help people work successfully. The biggest hall is where the kwan-yin is. Kwan-yin prevent us from dangerous and bring us safety and peace.

I like the religous service very much. People bring joss sticks and burn them to worship. There were many people to the temple. Jiming Temple is one of the temples in nanjing that people go to most. The Boda in Jiming Temple gives safety and peace to everyone. Though there were a lot of people in the temple, but the temple was calm and silent. I felt vey quiet in my mind. I told the Boda my wishes. I felt happy to make wishes.
I fell down almost every Boda in the temple and donate some money for the temple.I will help people who need money. Treating others well is also treat ourselves well. I learnt to be nice to everyone from here.

volunteer/work experience

Working ability is very important or maybe more important than study. I did volunteer works which are guide Danish students, teach English for elementary school students ,help in the library, painting for GCA fashion show, did volunteer work in welfare house.I learnt about the welfare house where is located in Qingxi Lu, Nanjing. The welfare house looks like a kindergarten. The children who live there are very happy. There is also a hospital in the welfare house. Some of the parents who abandoned their children in the welfare house because their child had diseases which might cost them a lot of money. The hospital in the welfare cure the children and the welfare will send them to a new family to make the children grow healthier. The children are divided by their ages. The oldest child is five years old.On March 14, Candy and I guided some Danish students to look around our school.On Saturday morning, I came to school and guided the Danish students who are very kind---Lena and Katharine. After we looking around the whole NFLS and talking about the school life in China and Denmark. Lena, Katharine and their friends wanted to know more about the Chinese people‘s daily life. So, we decided to go to the market near the school. Then I led them go to the German bakery. When we walked past the military camp. I was walking in front of the Danish students. Suddenly, Lena cried urgently behind me’ Joanne, come and help us.’ As I looked back, I saw a soldier dragged Lena‘s camera .Lena and her friend didn’t loosen their hold, too. The soldier wanted to grabbed the camera because Lena‘s friend just took a photo of the dustbin which is in the front of the military camp. He said the photo which is include the military camp need to be totally destroyed, so Lena’s memory card which contains all her photos she took in China would be confiscate. They couldn’t neither listen nor speak in Chinese. They felt angry but vexatious. We were the only people could help them.
I tried my best to translate between the soldier and Lena. Lena said she could delete the photo, but the soldier refused to do so. They thought the photos could come back if they wouldn’t destroy the memory card. Then, a lot of people came to us and stood around us to see what happened. I felt embarrassed and frightened. I still negotiated with the sodier. At the same time I let Candy call our teacher and the Danish teacher. Lena’s cheeks went red and tears wet her face. I gave the cell phone to Lena and she called her teacher.
Luckily, we found the number of a Chinese teacher who was charged with these international students. We told him the exact location and the situation here. In five minutes, both the Chinese teacher and the Danish teacher arrived. As the result, Lena bought a new memory card and copied the photos from the old card except the one which was taken on front of the military camp.From this volunteer experience, I learnt that when I have some difficulties or in some bad situations, worry might not work. I need to calm down and face the problems. I also learnt that before we go to another, we need to research about the country. Even we study abroad for at least four years. We need to know the culture differences, politic differences, economic differences and so on.I think communication skill is required to work effectively and safely with others and to succeed as individual and collaborative workers. As the example that I guided Danish students, good communication and negotiation make me work efficiently. Another example, when I taught primary school students, I communicated with them. I need to make sure that every sentence which I said they understand.As a teacher, I think be responsible is very important. When I taught primary school students, I put most of my effort to teach them. More they learnt, more happier I am. They understand what I taught means I am successful. The students and I all spent time to study. I need to be responsible to them to make them really learnt things from me. Being responsible also benefits the community and me. Being responsible to my work make me work efficiently. Everyone being responsible may make the community works properly

go to a performence

I went to a performance THE TAMING OF THE SHREW which was held by GCA teachers and students on December 19 2008 at NFLS auditorium (3rd floor, over Cafeteria) 30 Beijing Dong Lu, Nanjing.
The show begins at 7PM. I went to the show with Candy. We attended at 6:20. I chose it because it was directed and performed by GCA student. THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is also a famous play which was written by Shakespeare.

The beautiful and gentle Bianca has no shortage of admirers (Lucentio, Gremio and Hortensio) but her father insists that she will not marry until her shrewish sister, Katharina, is betrothed. Bianca's suitors persuade fortune-seeker Petruchio to court her. The suitors pay for any costs involved and there is also the goal of Katharina's dowry. Petruchio marries Katharina and he carries Katharina off to his country house with his servant Grumio. Petruchio intends to browbeat Katharina into submission and he denies her food, sleep and her new clothes, whilst continuously singing her praises. Katharina is tamed. They return to Padua where Lucentio has won Bianca. At a banquet they wager on who has the most obedient wife. Each wife is issued with commands but only Katharina obeys and promptly lectures everyone on the importance of wifely submission.

I not only watched the show,but also made one stage property for the show. So, I wanted to see this performance which was all made by GCA students.The Taming of the Shrew is an early comedy byW illiam Shakespeare believed to have been written between 1590 and 1594 . The play begins with a framing device, often referred to as the Induction, in which a drunken tinker named Sly is tricked into thinking he is a nobleman by a mischievous Lord.I like the show because all performers acted very well. The clothes and the setting were beautiful. It was really very interesting. Some actins made audience laugh. The performers spoke very fluent English.

public events

On April 24, I went to the crab apple blossoms exhibition which was held by Mochou Lake Park. I went to the exhibition with Julia. We attended at about four o’clock in the afternoon.
I chose this exhibition because of the advertisement on the map magazine. My father also told me that the flowers were really beautiful. I have heard about crab apples, but I don’t know the flower deeply. I know that sakura in Japan is one kind of crabapples. I wanted to know the differences between Chinese crab apples and Japanese crab apples.

By reading the label of the crab apples. I learnt that the crab apples can fructufy. Different kinds of crab apple can fructufy different fruit.

The exhibition was in the garden of crab apples blossoms where along the Mochou Lake. The gate of the garden is beautiful which has a lot of red vivid crabapples blossoms. Unfortunately, when we walked into the garden, the crab apples blossoms got less and less. May be we went to the exhibition a little bit late. Many of the crab apple blossom faded. So, we walked around the garden quickly and read the introduction of the few blossoms.
The open time of the exhibition was from April 1 to May 3 . I don’t like the exhibition because there were not many flowers. I find it was boring because there were not many kinds of flowers. The exhibition was small. There were few people there. The introductions of the flowers are not specific. I can’t know the differences between flowers by reading the introduction of each flower. This year we didn't catch the florescence, but I will go there next year. The whole garden crabapple blossom will be beautiful. I am looking forward to visiting there again.

GO TO DINNER WITH MY PARENTS

I went to western restaurant on Feb.26.with parents. The name of the restaurant is ‘Greenery’. I chose this restaurant because the flavor of the restaurant is delicious and the chef of the restaurant has studied nutrition in Swiss. Firstly, we had soup and bread with grilled garlic and Florence oil. Secondly, we had vegetable salad .Then, I ate a steak with some particular sauce which has a flavor of vanilla. It is really amazing. Finall , I ate chocolate brownie, it was sweet and melt in my mouth when I ate it. This dinner is quite nice.

The waiters serivice is polite and fast,they change the folks and planets very quiet and keep the table always be clean.

When I was eating ,I found that there are a lot of differences between Chinese food and western food. Even though the materials are the same ,but the spice of food is quite different. I think there is not as many spices in Chinese food as in the western food. Spices can make different flavour. It is amazing. I realized that the cheese is used quite often in western food. There is cheese in the pasta ,even in the salad. Cheese can also used to make hotpot.
Different food represents different cultures. Some food style dependent on the geology, history ,religion and climate. From the food, we can learn a lot of the culture.

This restaurant environment was very nice,the music was soft and relax,and the lights was dreamly,it was all my taste,so I like there very much, I would recommend my friends to try it!

Go an exhibition with my friend

I went to an exhibition with my friend Candy this Saturday,Feb 28 , at Nanjing Museum. I chose this exhibition because I am intereted in Chinese traditional artworks. The exhibits are all about Chinese Qing Dynasty wash painting and Chinese calligraphy that were made of eight Chinese artists who are famous in Qing dynasty. The artist’s names are Shi tao, Jin nong,Zheng bian,Li chan,Huang shen,Li Fangyin,Luo Pin,Gao Xiang,Wang Shishen,
The title of the exhibition is ‘Ancient Chinese painting exhibition’. The artworks are shown about Qing Dynasty paintings. The artworks are not contemporary.The artwork ‘bamboos on the stone’ impressed me. It is a wash painting. The subject of the artwork is the bamboo. It is a bamboo which the stone is behind it.The color of this artwork is white and black.The colour of the bamboo is darker than the stones.The lines of the painting is sharp and short.
I am excited about the work. The bamboo is very thin .But it stand on the stone and looks firm without swing. It makes me think about a person who is very rigid and brave even he faces for some difficulties. I think it shows bravery of the bamboo. The bamboo in China is as a symbol of rigid. No matter the wind below the bamboo cruelly.However the bamboo can still stand straightly. The spirit of bamboo tell us if we want to do something ,never give up!It makes me think about my experience.

In the PE class, we have soccer game. I was really a terrible soccer player. I couldn’t run faster ,I couln’t catch the ball and I couldn’t kick it with a long distance. I felt depressed about this ,I didn’t want to make shame to our team. Therefore, I was running in the every evening and I asked my classmates who were good at playing soccer to teach me .At first,I couldn’t kick the ball straightly and with a lot of power. I felt sad about this.However, it is wouldn’t work if you didn’t put any effort.Thus , I didn’t give up. I took more exercise.After half a month, I got a obviously progress. I would’t lost marks for my team,even sometimes I earned marks for my team.
I like this artwork very much. Though the artwork is not colourful-only painted by black and white. I think it has many meanings. The lines of the bamboo are sharp and short. I think it represents firm. The shape of the bamboo is quite thin. It represents like a person who is suffered by difficulties and he doesn’t want to give up.Even though the stones is the setting of the picture , It is very important. It is represents the bad situation and difficulties.I think other people might appreciate the artwork. I think it is clear, it represents the idea straightforwardly .its shapes, lines are really beautiful .The subject of the artwork is really traditional and encourable.The artist of the artwork has the high respect on drawing bamboos and he is the most famous artist .
I enjoyed this exhibition and I like this exhibition very much. The painting are amazing . They totally express the Chinese traditional artworks. I am obessessed by them. This exhibition let me learnt a lot about Chinese ancient artwork. I saw a lot of wash paintings. It is a wonderful art experience for me.

report of school club

I am a member of DIY club, tutor club, tae kwon do club and TV series club.
At first, I think tae kwon do is very easy, But I was wrong. We must practice. Leg pressing, forward roll, forward jumping, and so on, it is really a tough job. At the beginning, I couldn’t do forward roll at all, but the coach excoriated to me, I tried to do this, At the beginning several times. I couldn’t’ troll my body and I was struck on the floor, But after times and times, I could do one forward roll. Finally, I was so excited that I did it; tae kwon Do told me to face the difficulties not to avoid them. I learned a lot from it.
DIY is one of my favorites. One task DIY club is making for Jack O lantern for Halloween. I was very happy to do it. I think it is an easy task. When I carved the pumpkin realized I was wrong. The surface of the pumpkin was very hard, it is difficult to carve it and make beautiful shapes on it. It took me 20 minutes to carve the cover of the lantern. Then I need to scoop seed of the pumpkin. This process was boring. Finally, I carved the eyes and the mouth, though it is a small pumpkin. It took me one and an half hours. Because this process, I knew that even though it was very little , and still try my best to do it.
I think organizing is required to work effectively. I tutor club, there are many announcements to every student in Grade 10.Such as gather place and time. It would take a lot time if I go to every class and tell everyone the announcements. Although there would be many students even don’t understand clearly. So I asked other 5 helpers in every class to help me announce their classmates the notice.
tae kwon do club makes me healthier and braver. tae kwon do club is excellent, If I must talk a weakness that is no air-conditional in Summer. In DIY club, I practice my handwork, it is an interesting activity. DIY is magnificent. I hope I can do more DIY products. In TV series is my favorite. In TV series club, I can relax after the whole day study. The strength of tutor club can help everyone to get what they want. And most of students in Grade 10. The tutor club needs cooperation between grade 10 and grade 11.Some times Grade 10 schedule is different from Grade 11 schedule. The amount of class we arranged isn’t enough for Grade 10 student. The tutor club is the most practical and it is marvelous.

The leadership club is training us to get the ability of leadership and teamwork. we have done the studycase of KFC in Sheraton Hotel. In this case, we learnt a lot from the KFC and organization skill and communication ability,I remember Mable who is my team member in 11-A. she is very serious for everything and planing carefully the details .She prepared schedule st least one week before the match , then we won the first prize in all the presentations. So ,I will study her strengths.

Because of club activities, I got healthier and braver in tae kwon do club. I got more creative in DIY club. I got happier in TV series club. I got more organized learnt a lot from it .With the strengths, we can make GCA better.

report of physical activity

Physical activity makes us healthier and more beautiful. It is necessary for us to do physical activities.
I went to climb the Purple Mountain with my father four times during the winter holiday. Although it is winter, climbing made me sweat and felt as hot as summer. Obviously, climbing took me a lot of energy.

At the first time, I almost couldn’t move at approximately 2/3 of the mountain. At the fourth time, I climbed faster. Though I sweated a lot, I didn’t feel exhausted when I was climbing. I got healthier and I lost weight.

Actually, physical activity is not only used to lose our weight, but also let us face the difficulties. When I was climbing, there was a steep slope that there is no tree but only stones. I was afraid of that I didn’t want to climb anymore. At that time, my father walked on the hard stone, after a while, he climbed at the half of the stone slope. ‘Don’t be afraid, that is just a piece of cake for you’, father encouraged me. I climbed step by step; I tried to forget that is a steep slope. Finally, I climbed over it. When I looked back, I couldn’t believe that I climbed on such a steep slope. I was proud of myself. I learnt that ‘never give up and face the difficulties’
Climbing and tae kwon do are so difficult for me. After I did tae kwon down everytime, my body was tingle and I have a pain in my legs. I learnt forward roll, leg pressing and so on. Climbing and tae kwon do let me know that I need to face the difficulties not to avoid them. There are a lot of challenges in my life. I am lack of enduring hardships and being capable of hard work.
Because of the physical activity, I learnt that I need to endure hardships and face the difficulties in both study and life. Physical activity told me not to give up anything. It benefits me and encourages me.

This spring , I started to learn aerobics.Aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines with the goal of improving all elements of fitness. It is usually performed to music and may be practiced in a group setting led by an instructor, although it can be done solo and without musical accompaniment. When I do the aerobic with the music, I feel very relaxed and calm. I like this very much.
Though tae kwon do is one way to defend ourselves, we can’t deny that it is a good physical activity. it can stretch every part of my body, my fitness goal is practicing every part of my body and take some fat out. Tea kwon do fit my goal.

I think climbing and tae kwon do are all training my volition and work hard without complaint,The limitation of tae kwon do is it is indoor activity. It is required for ordered area. Climbing is limited by the weather. If it is cats and dogs, climbing is dangerous. so Physical activity makes me healthier and braver lifestyle !

report of volunteer work

Working ability is very important. Doing volunteer work is a good way to improve our employability. I have been a librarian in Nanjing library, made stage property for drama club and helped tutor club.
Fan is the leader of the tutor club. He is conscientious. I learnt a lot from him. He is organized. He planned everything before he did it. Then he did as what he planned. Planning makes us more effectively. He always uses charts and lists to make tutor group. It makes people easy to understand which group they are in. I learnt this from him. I used not only charts and lists of data in my club work, but also other areas of my study.
I like doing DIY. I am a member of DIY club. I also helped drama club to do their stage properties of drama ‘The Taming Of The Shrew’. I did the mail box. Firstly, I cut the square side to the arch. I made the shape of the mail box. Secondly, I wanted to make a cover of the box on the black paper and cut it. When I stuck it on the box, I found that it couldn’t cover the whole box. The box is stereoscopic. I was careless,I drew the wrong 2D shape of the box.

Unfortunately, I wasted a piece of paper. I drew another cover and stuck it on the box. I cut a hole on the bottom of the box and made the wood stick through the box. It couldn’t stand with a stick. We were disappointed. I came up with the solution,‘we may put it in the tall box ’.‘yes! It is a good idea. maybe we can put some sand in it.’ Angela suggested.

From this process, I knew that I was careless sometimes and I tried my best to correct it. but I think creative is my strength. so I will keep it.
As a librarian, I need to arrange the books. There are a large amount of books. Arranging them might take a lot of time and energy. At first, I couldn’t find the position of books easily. Then I found that there were numbers of the books. Each shelf has its own number. Putting the books in their ordered shelves is more easily. I think observation make work effectively.
Doing volunteer work makes me improve myself ability. Because of being the helper of tutor club, I get more organized skill. Because of making stage properties, I got more creative and more conscientious. Because of being the librarian, I knew that observation is very important.

Have Dinner With Grade 12 Mentors

I went to an Italian restaurant on Dec.27.with Grade 12 student who are Jessica, East and Shirley. I attended at 6:45 p.m. The name of the restaurant is ‘my place’. We chose this restaurant because the flavor of the courses is traditional flavor of Italian food.Firstly, I order a set of steak dinner,then the waiter took before dinner bread. I ate vegetable salad. The salad is delicious because the vegetable is fresh. Then I ate spaghetti with cheese, mushrooms and onion. At last I had my main course-the steak with fried chips.I like the Italian food. The Italian food is quite different from Chinese food. Firstly, we use chopsticks and bowls to eat in Chinese food .However, forks and knives are common in western food. Secondly, the cooking manner of Chinese food and Italian food is different. Most Chinese food is scrambled. Most Italian food is boiled and roasted. Thirdly the dinner table is different .Chinese dinner table is always circle. Italian dinner table is rectangle.
It is a place where good friends get together to have some delicious food and relax.
There many foreign people in the restaurant .They talked when they had delicious dinner. The environment of the restaurant is very nice and relaxing. The restaurant is a house which locates in Hunan Road. There is a small garden in the front of the house. The atmosphere is relaxing and free. It is a quiet place which hides in the shops, restaurants and skyscrapers. The service of the restaurant is good. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and provide good service. The owner of the restaurant is also very friendly.
I will recommend other people to eat there because the flavor of food and the environment are both excellent.

Go an exhibition about sculpture with Ms. Hadley

Iwent to an exhibition with Ms.Hadley .The exhibits are all about sculpture that were made of Chinese artist. The artist’s name is Wu Weishan. He represents Chinese culture by describing Chinese historic famous people.The title of the exhibition is ‘Wu Weishan Culture Figure Sculpture Gallery’. The artworks are shown about sculpture. The artwork is contemporary.The artwork Ru Zi Niu (the cow) impressed me. It is a big sculpture. The subject of the artwork is the cow. It is a crow who raises his head and looks forward. It kneels its legs. It is a free work and it is dark blue .The surface of it is course and rough. It is made of bronze.I feel confused about the work. The cow is very thin .But it raises its head and it looks firm. It seems like it does not surrender. It makes me think about a person who is very strong even though he just has poor power. I think it also represents facing the difficulties and working them out even in a bad situation. It makes me think about my experience.
I went climbing Zijing Mountain with my father. We climbed at the middle of the mountain. I was tired and the mountain became steeper and steeper. I didn’t want to go higher. I wanted to give up,At that time, my father encouraged me .finally, I continued climbing and got to the top of the mountain. It makes me think about another example that we learnt in social studies.
In rebellion 1837.Even the rebels in Upper Canada and Lower Canada didn’t have many weapons and they had no experience. However, for their freedom, they fought for their democracy. They are brave. I think the artist intention is to show the spirit of dedication. The cow is just like the teachers. The cow is thin but it is strong. Its inside is empty, just like a teacher, giving their student everything! The cow kneels to represent generations. Normally, the cow kneels for child cowherd to climb on. The cow raises its head and looks forward to represent new hopes, new dedications.I do like this artwork. Though the artwork is simple and just like a symbol. I think it has many meanings. Its lines and shapes are very simple and free. The rough surface, simple lines, active shape make me feel the cow is strong. It seems to give me power. It just uses several simple lines to describe, such as raising head, kneeling but make the work totally represent the idea. I think other people might appreciate the artwork. I think it is simple, it represents the idea straightforwardly .its shapes, lines are really beautiful and strong. The idea of the work is simple, everyone has given and got, grateful and thanks are in anywhere in the world.I enjoyed this exhibition. This exhibition let me learnt a lot about art. I saw a lot of sculpture. They are amazing. I felt exiting about the exhibition. I saw a lot what I never seen.
